The studio is already alive with excitement and in full recital preparation mode. In order to put on the best recital experience for the dancers and the audience we rely on our parents to lend a helping hand backstage.

So, if you are new to Dance Factory, are returning but have not experienced recital, or are a seasoned recital veteran please consider learning more and signing up to become a volunteer below. It’s your turn to be a part of the #BestShowEver!

Volunteer Responsibilities for the Dance Recital

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all performers and attendees, all volunteers are expected to arrive one hour before the dress rehearsal and the show begins. Your dedication and attention to detail are greatly appreciated in helping create a successful event. Below are the assigned roles and their responsibilities:

All Volunteers will be assigned to one of the following

All volunteers are required to arrive 1 hour before the dress rehearsal and show begins.

Sign-In/Out Table:
Volunteers at the sign-in/out table must ensure that every dancer is properly signed in before the rehearsal and show, and signed out afterward.
Accuracy and attention to detail are crucial to maintain a secure and organized process.

Runner:
Runners are responsible for escorting dancers to their designated dressing rooms before and after the rehearsal and performance.
During both rehearsal and the show, runners will guide dancers from dressing rooms to the stage before each routine, ensuring they are in the right place at the right time.
 

Class Mom:

(2 pre class) Class Moms play an essential role in ensuring our recital runs safely, smoothly, and joyfully for every dancer. Each Class Mom will receive an attendance roster and is responsible for checking in every dancer assigned to their group. Throughout the event, Class Moms help keep the children safe, engaged, and well‑behaved, offering support beyond their own child.

Responsibilities include fixing costume elements such as shoes, gloves, or hairpieces, putting on and buckling/tying all shoes for Pre‑Dance and Level 1 dancers

Helping dancers transition between routines,

Especially those performing in multiple classes.

Running dancers to the restrooms.

Escorting dancers to and from the runners before each performance and for the grand finale.

Class Moms must remain backstage until every dancer has been picked up by their designated guardian.

Additional duties may include keeping dancers quiet and organized while waiting, assisting with quick changes, ensuring all personal items stay with each dancer, and communicating any concerns to staff promptly. Your participation is vital to the success of the recital, and we are truly grateful for your dedication in creating a seamless and memorable experience for all.

Recital Volunteer FAQ

Do I have to buy myself a ticket if I’m volunteering backstage?

No, as you will never be seated in the audience.

What do I wear to rehearsal and recital?

Wear comfortable shoes (sneakers), jeans and a black shirt.

What do I need to bring?

Nothing but yourself. No other children will be allowed backstage with you if they are not a dancer in that recital. We will have coloring books and crayons available in the backstage area. Water and some pretzels are provided in the backstage area

If I volunteer, will I get to see my dancer on stage?

Yes, you will be permitted to take a moment from your volunteering duties to watch each of your dancer’s recital numbers from backstage.  Just remember when in the wings, if you can see the audience, they can see you!

What are my responsibilities if I sign up to help at the recital?

You are required to arrive 1 hour before the rehearsal & show begins. There are several stations one can be assigned to…a parent at sign in/out dancer’s table, a runner, & a class mom. If assigned to a specific class ” Class mom” you are required to stay with the class until the last dancer is picked up.

What am I responsible for if I volunteer for class mom?

Each class mom will be provided with an attendance roster and is expected to check in every dancer assigned to their group.
The role of a class mom includes keeping the children safe, engaged, and well-behaved throughout the event.
Assistance extends beyond your own child—you will need to:

Remain backstage with the dancers until every child has been picked up by their designated guardian. 2 Class Moms per a group.
Your participation is vital to the success of the recital!
