Recital Information

A Guide for Students and Parents

For over 20 years, Dance Factory of New Smyrna Beach has provided students with an exciting performance experience through its Holiday Showcase & Spring Recital. We are thrilled to continue this tradition, giving dancers a chance to shine in front of family and friends.

The recital is a professionally directed performance that showcases the hard work and progress students have made throughout the year. Performing on stage helps build confidence, teamwork, and social skills—benefits that extend beyond dance into school, work, and everyday life.

Participation in the recital requires commitment from both students and parents. This outlines expectations to help ensure a smooth and successful experience for everyone involved.

Thank you for your support and dedication—we look forward to another amazing recital!

STAYING CONNECTED

As the season progresses, additional recital information and updates will be shared on the Dance Factory NSB website (www.DANCEFACTORYNSB.COM/NEWSLETTERS), through email, in our private Facebook Parent Page, and on the studio bulletin boards. Families are responsible for staying up to date on all announcements and changes.

Our goal is to make the recital an organized, exciting, and memorable experience for everyone involved. It truly takes a team—students, parents, teachers, and the director all play an important role in the success of our show.

COSTUMES

Costumes at Dance Factory are always age‑appropriate, thoughtfully selected, and of the highest quality to ensure dancers look and feel their best on stage. Every student is required to purchase one costume per class for both our Holiday Showcase and Spring Recital.

Costumes include all necessary accessories (such as hats, gloves, and tutu/ skirts), but do not include shoes, basic hair supplies, or makeup.

To guarantee timely delivery for studio photographs and smooth, organized distribution, all costume payments must be submitted on time. Because costume manufacturers do not accept cancellations or offer refunds, the studio is unable to refund costume payments.

Pre‑Dance and Level 1 dancers will need one costume for each performance season (Holiday Showcase and/or Spring Recital). All other dancers will need one costume for each subject they train in, unless an instructor provides different guidance.

Our goal is to make the costume process simple, organized, and exciting for every family while ensuring each dancer shines confidently on stage.

COSTUME PAYMENT SCHEDULE

Performance Packages include:

  • The dancer’s class costume, Tights, Costume accessories, Dancers Award, Professional theater technicians (lighting, sound, backstage crew) Professionally printed programs…

Please Note: This fee does not include monthly tuition.

Full Payment Due Dates:

  • October 1, 2026 — Holiday Showcase Performance Package: $155
  • March 1, 2027 — Spring Recital Performance Package: $155

Families with more than one dancer or dancers enrolled in multiple classes will incur an additional $60–$85 fee per extra costume/show tights.

SIZING / ALTERATIONS

Sizing

All dancers were measured during their regularly scheduled classes, and the appropriate costume sizes have already been selected and ordered for each student. Families do not need to take any additional steps for the sizing process.

Alterations

While uncommon, minor alterations may occasionally be needed once costumes arrive. At Dance Factory, all standard alterations are completed in‑studio to ensure a consistent, polished fit for every dancer.

HOW TO MEASURE MY DANCER

DISTRIBUTION

Costumes Remain at the Studio

To keep costumes safe, organized, and performance‑ready, all Dance Factory costumes will remain at the studio until the end of the season. Costumes will be sent home after recital classes are complete, ensuring dancers arrive on stage with clean, intact costumes and all accessories accounted for.

Left‑Behind Items

Any costumes, accessories, or personal items left behind after distribution will be held for a limited time:

  • Holiday Showcase items — may be picked up until December 1 – 19, of 2026
  • Spring Recital items — may be picked up until the end of June 8 – 25 of 2027

After these dates, all unclaimed items will be donated.

TIGHTS & UNDERGARMENTS

Tights

To ensure perfect consistency in color and style, tights are ordered with each costume. This guarantees that every dancer matches on stage and avoids last‑minute sizing issues. Extra tights are available upon request and should be pre‑ordered to ensure the correct size and color. Having a second pair on hand is always recommended for peace of mind.

If you need additional tights, you can request them here by emailing the studio at dancefactorynsb01@gmail.com

Tights Prices:

  • Footed: $10.65
  • Convertible: $11.72
  • Stirrup: $11.72

To Place an Order:  Please email dancefactorynsb01@gmail.com with the following information:

  1. Your dancer’s class or level.
  2. The color, size, style, and quantity of tights you need.

Thank you for your cooperation and for ensuring your dancer is recital ready. We appreciate your effort in helping them shine on stage!

Undergarments

Much like a swimsuit, traditional underwear should not be worn under costumes. It can show on stage and interfere with costume lines. The only approved undergarment is a nude leotard, which provides coverage, modesty, and a smooth silhouette under costumes.

Nude Leotard Requirement

A nude leotard is required for all dancers performing in more than one routine/class. This allows dancers to change costumes quickly, safely, and modestly backstage.

This requirement applies to dancers in:

  • Level 2
  • Level 3
  • Level 4

PHOTO DAY MAKE-UP

Keep It Light for the Best Photos!

For Photo Day, we kindly request that dancers wear makeup with a more natural look. While heavy stage makeup is essential for performances, it is not ideal for recital photos. A lighter, more natural application ensures that the dancers’ features are beautifully captured on camera without appearing overly done.

Guidelines for Pre-Dance and Levels 1, 2, 3, & 4:

  • Opt for subtle, natural tones that enhance, rather than overpower, your dancer’s appearance.
  • Avoid thick layers of foundation or bold, dramatic styles meant for stage lighting.
PRE-DANCE & LEVEL 1 MAKE-UP FOR DRESS REHEARSAL & SHOWCASE/RECITAL

For our younger dancers in Pre-Dance and Level 1, stage makeup is slightly lighter compared to older dancers. However, it remains effective under the harsh stage lights to ensure their features are visible and vibrant. Please follow the video provided below as a reference. VIDEO LINK

Makeup Guidelines:

  • Keep the makeup soft and age-appropriate while still highlighting their natural features.
  • Focus on enhancing their cheeks, eyes, and lips with light and subtle tones.
  • Avoid overly bold or dramatic styles, as the goal is to maintain a balance between natural appearance and stage presence.
LEVEL 2 – 4 / ALL COMPETITON TEAM DANCERS MAKE-UP FOR DRESS REHEARSAL & SHOWCASE/RECITAL

  • Mascara: Black.
